POSITIVE PSYCHOLOGY JOURNALIST AND ARRANGER
Location: Bend, Oregon
What I do:
My role is to assist with the Better Than Before and Positive Psychology Consulting Programs. I do any and all ‘gymnastics’ needed to ensure the students feel loved and supported and can relax in class while I creatively capture our collective experience and answer their questions on any topic from psychology, to zoom, to technology. I am also part of the development team working on the new CPPC program. I support the faculty by bootstrapping processes, researching, and organizing so they can develop the content for the upcoming class with more ease. My job is multifaceted and fun, I never know what the day will bring.
Professional Experience:
As a former engineer I bring a goal oriented, practical vision to my Positive Psychology work. I am curious about human nature, the nuances of our life experiences, and how we can learn, grow and accomplish as humans while connecting deeply with each other. In my engineering role at Intel I often brought groups of people together to collaborate on our technical creations which included microprocessors and the tools to develop them, while creating an open atmosphere to build together with clarity and ease. I loved the faciliation, leadership, and mentorship aspects of my job the most. I knew I needed and wanted to gain more content knowledge in positive pscyhology so I could use more than my intiution when working with groups of people. As a result, I left my job to study and learn as much as possible in the Positive Psychology discipline. I have taken all of The Flourishing Center classes without exception. I love groups and teams and how they accomplish together and my hope and dream is to do that work in the world to make a difference alongwith writing a book.
My Story:
I grew up in the Seattle area. I was a strong student in math and science and always thought I would become a doctor. However, I ended up chosing another direction which was engineering. Underneath it all though, I really did want to help people. After earning my masters degree in electrical engineering I moved to Portland, Oregon to work for Intel. I spent 24 years there on some of the greatest teams in the world designing and building mircroprocessors. I also met and married my husband who worked on one of those teams. We have been married for 30 years. We have two adult daughters and a cute yellow lab. We live part time in Bend, Oregon and part time in Portland, Oregon. At this point we are both pursuing our ‘retirement’ dreams. My dream is to help the world flourish through the incredible power of Positive Pyscyology and his is to get people outside where the magic is. The funny thing is I think the magic is inside (our heads) and he thinks it is outside in nature. Maybe it is both.
The Arts:
I love to read and listen to books. Not surprisingly, I also love words. It all starts with a thought. Words can instill inspiration for action. Words can sum things up and create a deep connection between humans. Words are the art form I adore. Much of the art in my home is simply words.
Morning Ritual:
I enjoy coffee and goal setting every morning. I love to anticipate the day. This ritual brings a positive focus to my day and starts me off right.
A Little Known Fact About Me…
My Dad grew up in Darjeeling, India which is in the foothills of the Himilayas at 7000 ft. I have been there to visit 3 times. I have many Indian relatives who I connect with over What’sApp and Zoom, and many of them are involved in coaching, happiness, and positive psychology work!
