Caroline Gordon-Elliott is exactly what CAPP is all about. She’s a screen writer, a mother, a wife and an individual who always strives to better herself through the constant action of self-reflection and altruism. Despite many life challenges, she consistently shows up for her friends, her family and her writing career which influences countless others.
Instead of taking the obvious route of writing a movie or a play that was clothed in positive psychology talk, but was really just using CAPP as a venue to promote her craft and herself (nothing wrong with that), she held true to what she believes is the CAPP intent and created a whimsical video geared purely to uplift and entertain those workers who have the most thankless, underpaid and important job in the world. She created a video for mothers called “How To Be a Good Mother”.
“I wanted to create a fun and uplifting video that might bring a smile to the mothers who share the same worry and negative self-talk that I, and so many mothers I know, have. I wanted the video to have a subtle message that emanates the lessons of positive psychology without feeling like a lesson,” says Caroline of her project. “I also try to include the suggestion for one-step-at-a-time solutions for solving our daily parenting dilemmas, instead of looking at the daunting big picture.”
She says her CAPP experience offered her directions on how to change her daily thinking from negative self-talk to a more positive perspective. As a creator and leader of the ongoing writer’s workshop, WAG, CAPP gave her suggestions on how better to relate with others, in being both a better listener and being a social and emotional leader.
Thank you, Caroline, for leading. You make the world a more positive place.
