Episode 39: Positive Psychology Parenting

June 11, 2019 by Emiliya Zhivotovskaya

Episode 39: Positive Psychology Parenting on The Flourishing Center Podcast with Emiliyia Zhivotovskaya: Life Hacks, Science and How People Put Positive Psychology into Practice

How positive psychology can help with parenting cross-culturally and in general.

Most adults will become parents at some point in their lives. And while most of us strive to be great parents, we may also find ourselves confused and frustrated by the seemingly endless challenges of parenthood.

In this episode, Emiliya offers some wonderful tips to help you FLOURISH! We all want our kids to lead happy and fulfilled lives? We also want to be the best parents we can be. The field of positive psychology is particularly pertinent to discussions of effective parenting.

Stay on the learner path! Emiliya teaches us that in a nutshell, positive parents support a child’s healthy growth and inner spirit by being loving, supportive, firm, consistent, and involved. Such parents go beyond communicating their expectations, but practice what they preach by being positive role models of the growth mindset for their children to emulate. Expressing your needs as a parent and listen to the needs of our children.

“Parenting can be really hard. Having a growth mindset helps.”

Research shows that parents can have a powerful impact on their children’s mindsets. The language you use and the actions you take show your children what you expect. Giving process praise, talking about the brain, accepting mistakes as learning opportunities, and understanding the role of emotions in learning are all practices you can begin today. As a parent you can accept mistakes as learning opportunities and teaching lessons.
