In this practitioner profile episode, Emiliya Zhivotovskaya, CEO and Founder of The Flourishing Center, speaks with Alice Giarrusso, an Academic Coach and Author.
Alice Giarrusso is a career educator and high school academic coach with a passion for helping students in their quest for school success. With over 30 years of classroom teaching, degrees in education and counseling, and a certification in applied positive psychology, she believes that school success should be engaging, enjoyable and meaningful. It should also be within reach for all those willing to work for it.
Why do well in school?
She is the author of The Learning Curve; Navigating the Road to High School Success. She started with a big picture question. Why do well? Many students start high school knowing that they should do well and feeling that they want to do well, but stop short of identifying exactly why doing well is so beneficial. By identifying the why, it is easier to become more motivated and more committed to the time and effort it takes to succeed. Alice has identified three big reasons to do well:
The Three Big Reasons to Do Well
1. You Get to Take All You Learn With You
2. Doing Well Increases Your Options and Makes You More Marketable
3. You’re Practicing the Skills You Need to Be Successful in School and Beyond
